This past Saturday, nine Hoosac students along with Ms. Lindsay participated in the 11th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. This event is also known as "The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence." As the students learned from counselors and survivors who gave speeches at the event, every 98 seconds someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. This works out to be about 1 in every 6 women and 3% of men. Between the ages of 16-19, young women are four times more likely to be victims of attempted sexual assault. Our nine Hoosac students joined forces with hundreds of people from the Troy area to help raise awareness of these issues and to raise money for the Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance Program at Samaritan Hospital. To increase visibility for the cause and to show support for victims, men who participated literally walked a mile in high heeled shoes.
