Boys Hockey Takes Down Trinity-Pawling in 4-3 Thriller
This past Thursday the Hoosac Owls traveled to Trinity-Pawling for a showdown of two Prep School Power Houses. The Owls came out flying, lighting the lamp first as Alex Demin '18 created a turnover with a great physical play. He dished to Jacob Desjardins '18 and the boys went into the first freeze up 1-0.
Trinity-Pawling made a goaltender switch to start the second period, looking to go on the offensive. Plans worked out as the opponents were able to answer and tallied their first notch on the board. Rebounding well, Austan Bellefeuille '18 found the back of the net after a flurry of shots and rebounds. Hoosac finally caught the bounce they were fighting for as the puck trickled across the goal line to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.
After taking a penalty, the all-boys school answered again on a powerplay bid, tying up the game yet again. However, a very strong individual effort by Simon Deldon '19 put the Owls on the board for a third time. Deldon streaked through the nuetral zone, fending off a defender before driving the net and burying it top shelf to finish it off. All Swedish. A lot of Finnish!
Halfway into the third period Trinity-Pawling kept the gas peddle down, throwing everything including the kitchen sink at Hoosac goaltender Olivier Lacroix '18. Eventually they notched their third of the night, once again, equaling the deficit.
Hoosac was determined to get the win and continued to shut Trinity-Pawling down defensively and put up quality chances.
The fourth and final goal came when Bellefeuille '18 drove the zone wide, attracting two Trinity-Pawling defenders his way as he snuck the biscuit through the slot to an open, all alone Luca Ragosta '18. Ragosta '18 made no mistake as he buried the game winner high glove side giving the boys the last and final lead of the game.
Boys varsity hockey plays at home tonight, Friday, February 9 at 5:30pm against Kingswood Oxford. The game will be held at the Conway Ice Arena at Hudson Valley Community College: 80 Vandenburgh Ave, Troy, NY 12180.
